Saturday, April 20, 2019  --  FOMS Field Trip / Meeting

  9:00 am - Noon - Collecting at the Balls Hill iron mines.
(owned by Technology General Corporation)
Directions: From Franklin Avenue, take Cork Hill Road 500 ft. south to its junction with Maple Road on the right, then park as directed and walk to collecting site.
Members are cautioned to beware of old mine openings
and stay out of them; some are quite narrow and deep.

  8:45 AM - Noon - FOMS Field Trip - Collecting at the Braen Franklin Quarry
Cork Hill Road, Franklin, N.J.
If gate is open, drive through and park to the left of the gate. Please don’t block the roadway.
Meet at the scale house to sign releases.
Hard hats, leather shoes (preferably steel tipped), gloves, and safety glasses required.
Participants MUST arrive by 8:45 am to register!
Members will then be escorted to the collecting site. Latecomers prohibited!

9:00 am - Noon - Field trip to the Taylor Road site.
Meet at the Franklin Mineral Museum. Park, and walk from there.
10:00 am - 3:00 pm. - Field trip to the Buckwheat Dump.
Collecting fee waived for FOMS members; pay poundage fee.

Swap-and-Sell Activity Encouraged.
FOMS volunteers will provide lunch and refreshments: BYOB.
This event is only for FOMS members and their families.

Saturday, September 21, 2019  --  FOMS Field Trip / Meeting

  9:30 AM - 12:30 PM - FOMS Field Trip - Collecting at Sterling Hill Mining Museum
Collecting permitted on the Mine Run Dump and in the Fill Quarry, Passaic Pit, and “Saddle” area.
No dig fee, poundage fee of $2 per pound.

12:30 PM - Barbeque lunch, BYOB, side dishes and desserts are welcome. The meeting will follow, mainly to go over the upcoming show. After the meeting digging can continue until 3:30.

10:45 - noon (Time Change) - Future Rockhounds of America
First, we will meet at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum outdoor pavilion and take a special tour of the Warren Museum of Fluorescence. Then, we will start working on the Fluorescent Minerals badge by learning about fluorescent minerals from Ogdensburg, Franklin and other famous locations and by talking a bit about what makes a mineral fluorescent. Then, of course, there will be fluorescent door prizes for attendees to add to their collections. Following the meeting, stick around for some food at the FOMS cookout and the awarding of badges at the beginning of the short FOMS general business meeting.

  The FOMS Annual Banquet starts at 6:30 pm on Saturday at the Lyceum Hall of the Immaculate Conception Church,
located at the south end of Franklin’s Main Street.
Tickets may be obtained at the FOMS show table for $20.00.
The meal is an all-you-can-eat buffet; soda, tea, and coffee are included.

After the banquet there will be an auction for the benefit of the FOMS.
Please plan on donating a good specimen, artifact, book, etc.!

Saturday, November 16, 2019  --  FOMS Field Trip / Meeting

  9:00 AM - Noon - FOMS Field Trip - Collecting at the Old Andover Iron Mines, Limecrest Rd.
The old Andover Mines and rendezvous point is at a gate along Sussex County Route 669 (Limecrest Road). It is on the right 0.1 miles past it's intersection with Old Creamery Road., which is 0.7 mi. north of Route 206. It is 2.6 miles south of its intersection with Sussex County Route 616 (1.1 min. beyond Aeroflex Road) or 9.1 miles south of Route 15. Parking is limited and will be addressed accordingly. It may require a brief walk along Route 669 or car pooling, yet to be determined. The property is heavily overgrown with numerous dangerous old mine openings and pits which are 'off limits.
Hard hats, leather shoes (preferably steel-tipped), gloves and glasses required.
