Dypingite
A thin coating of dypingite consisting of thousands of minute hemispherules on a fracture surface in dark brown, altered, nonfluorescent, franklinite-calcite ore. Much of the dypingite shows the long, curving chains by which this mineral is commonly recognized. This specimen, from the Richard Bostwick collection, is quite a good representation of the species and is noteworthy as having come from a known locality within the Sterling mine. Formerly it was in the John E. MacDonald collection, which in 1985-1986 was dispersed by sale by Richard Hauck.
