Dypingite

Tiny hemispherules of white dypingite on a fracture surface in granular Sterling Hill “red ore” consisting of brick-red willemite and black franklinite.  This fine example was collected in 1979 and soon thereafter was acquired by John E. MacDonald (his specimen JEM 2509).  At first it was described simply as “white balls on ore” because dypingite at that time was unknown to most collectors of the local minerals.  It later came into the possession of Richard Bostwick, who in late 1985 purchased it from Richard Hauck and in August 2024 donated it to the Franklin Mineral Museum, where it currently resides as specimen FMM-3348.
