Dypingite

Pale yellow hemispheres of dypingite, most 0.5-1.0 mm in diameter, thickly crowded on a nearly black fracture surface in willemite-franklinite-calcite "red ore" from the Sterling mine.  The willemite is slightly altered locally to dark brown serpentine.  Two of the sides of the specimen are slickensides, and one is lightly filmed with kraisslite.  The pale-yellow color of the dypingite is atypical; most is white.  The dypingite has been confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and fluoresces bright white LW (LED light source), similar but less brightly MW, and dim bluish-white SW. This specimen, now FMM-3282, was purchased by Richard Bostwick from collector/dealer Fred Parker in August 1981 and donated by Mr. Bostwick to the Franklin Mineral Museum in August 2024.
