ALMANDINE



Almandine, an iron aluminum silicate mineral of the garnet group, is one of the rarer garnets locally. Unanalyzed material in the almandine-pyrope series has been found associated with sillimanite in the central gneiss zone at Sterling Hill. Almandine was also found in one specimen from Franklin, associated with loellingite, magnetite, and fayalite. (Dunn, 1995)
